Whats On ?

In 2011 Arnhem Writers will be having a regular Monthly meeting.

It is scheduled to be on the Friday closest to the full moon each month, unless otherwise advised.

Next Event: We plan to do a Creative Writing workshop in September 2011 (details to follow)

Whats Planned:

Following the successful "By The Sea" writing Contest as a part of the Gove Peninsula Festival 2011, Arnhem Writers will be closely aligning our activities with the Gove Peninsula Festival Association Inc. as a funding, promotional and major event organising partner.

A song writing workshop if also on the horizion as a valuable event for the growing community of singer song writers in the region.

Our History:

On the 16th of September 2008 Writers, Poets and performers from Nhulunbuy & Yirrikala were fortunate to have a 3 day visit from the NT Writers Centre Executive Officer, Sandra Thibodeaux. Sandra started out her visit with a Performance evening at the Bali Pavilion at TAC on Friday night the 12th. The evening attracted about 30 writers, Poets, storytellers, Singer/Songwriter/Performers, and lovers of the performing arts.

In a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the blue waters of the Arafura Sea, the creative talent that we have in the region had the chance to perform their work for the enthusiastic audience. As the evening wore on and with some tasty finger food and a few drinks, the songs, poems and stories became all the more entertaining and sometimes insightful.
The performances were all original material, some heard for the first time in Nhulunbuy !
The next day saw a creative writing workshop held at the town library for Aprox 14 eager writers, keen to hone their writing skills.

The stories written on the day showed just how much imagination and creativity is waiting to burst out in the community.

At the end of the workshop it was resolved that we would meet again as a group and explore our creative potential further.

The feedback from Sandra was one of surprise at the unexpected level of enthusiasm & depth of Talent shown, not to mention the warm welcome and hospitality extended to her from the writing community in town.

Greetings Fellow Writers, Bard's, performers, presenters and others ....

I have been approached by a number of you, about when we will have our next writers night.
The year is rapidly drawing to a close and the Xmas parties are already coming thick and fast in December.
So let's make it so this Friday night the 19th Nov from 7 pm.
I will confirm if I can get The Arnhem Club Catalina room today.
If someone has another idea for an alternative venue, please speak up now.

Format for the evening will be the reading of  poems, short stories, tales, a bit of live acoustic music, a chance to exchange ideas with other writers, food and and a few drinks.
If your material is original that's great, or if you have a favourite you would like to share, bring it on.
I will ensure there is a yummy platter of snacks to feed those attending.

So please give me your RSVP by Thursday so I can cater for the evening.
A $5 a head cover will pay for this and keep the wheels of Arnhem Writers lubricated !
